A kitchen doesn’t always need a full renovation to feel brand new.
Located in Modesto, CA this Central Valley cabinet refacing project gave the kitchen an updated look. The homeowners wanted a more modern appearance without changing the entire layout of their space. Their existing cabinets still had good structure, but the older doors and drawer fronts made the kitchen feel dated and heavier.
By replacing the cabinet doors and drawers with a cleaner, more modern style, the entire room immediately felt brighter, more open, and more current.
The Before
The original cabinet doors had an older profile that no longer matched the homeowners’ style. Over time, wear and aging also started to take away from the overall appearance of the kitchen.
Like many homeowners, they wanted:
- A cleaner, updated appearance
- A brighter and more open feel
- A more modern style without a complete remodel
- A manageable process with less disruption
The Update
Instead of a full remodel, we focused on the most impactful change, new cabinet doors and drawer fronts.
This update gave the kitchen a modern, cohesive look with clean lines and a smooth satin finish throughout. We upgraded the hardware, added soft-close hinges and drawer slides. We replaced those exposed hinges with concealed European-style hinges for a cleaner, more refined look.
The space now feels brighter and more open. The cabinets are finished in Sherwin-Williams 7029 Agreeable Gray in a satin sheen. Adding a soft, warm tone that elevates the entire kitchen while showcasing the superior finish quality achieved with Renner products.
One of the major benefits of this approach is the shorter project timeline. This kitchen was fully transformed in just 5 days, while traditional kitchen remodels can often take months.
The Result
Check out the after photos to see how much the space changed with new doors and drawer fronts alone.
This kitchen now feels clean, modern, and built to last. For high-use surfaces like cabinets, we use a durable two-part European paint system that cures harder than standard latex, helping the finish better resist chips, scuffs, and everyday wear.
Projects like this are a great reminder that homeowners don’t always need a full renovation to make a major improvement in their home. Sometimes updating the right details creates the biggest difference!

FAQS -
Is Cabinet Painting Right for Your Kitchen?
Cabinet painting is a good option when the cabinet boxes are still solid, the layout works, and the main goal is to update the look without replacing everything.
What types of cabinets usually work well?
Solid wood, MDF, and well-built cabinet boxes are often good candidates, especially when the doors and drawers are in good condition or can be replaced.
What cabinets may not be a good fit?
Cabinets with water damage, failing laminate, soft or swollen wood, loose boxes, or a layout that no longer works may need more than paint.
What if the cabinet boxes are solid but the doors are dated?
That is where new doors and drawer fronts can make a big difference. You keep the existing structure, update the visible surfaces, and get a cleaner, more modern result without a full kitchen remodel.
