When beginning a painting project it is vital to properly prepare the surfaces to get the best-looking results. If you paint on poorly prepared surfaces, oftentimes the paint will not appear fresh and will fade much more quickly.
For the best results, follow these simple steps before painting:
- Check the walls for any nicks or holes, and fill them in with a quality interior joint compound.
- After the patches dry, smooth the surface with light sandpaper. Examine the walls for any old paint drips or ridges and gently “flatten” them with sandpaper for a nice even finish.
- Clean the walls thoroughly with a non-lint cloth or sponge and mildly soapy lukewarm water (use an all-purpose cleaning product for any tough spots). Also wipe down the baseboards and corners to clear any dust or cobwebs, and then apply painters tape around the surface edges.
- Finally, it is important to apply a good primer to work as a binding layer between the wall and paint. Primer allows paint to better adhere to a wall and sharpens the appearance of the paint. Using a high-quality, tinted primer will create a smooth surface and will also reduce the number of necessary paint coats by providing a solid base color.
After you have done these steps, your walls will be ready for a long lasting, quality paint job. Lancaster Painting services the Stanislaus, Merced and San Joaquin Counties. Call us if you have any further questions, or if you would like us to help you with your project.
